Greening

The Swerve Festival is dedicated to raising environmental awareness of its participants and making the festival as ecologically friendly as possible. Here are some of the ways that the festival aims to offset its carbon footprint and promote sustainable environmental practices:

Public Transportation

In a city that is in desperate need of traffic solutions, we encourage all festival attendees to use public transportation, or to ride their own bikes, rollerblades, scooters and skateboards to the festival. Raffles and surprises are in store for those who avoid their cars and arrive by one of these alternate methods of transport.

Global Inheritance

To minimize the carbon footprint, Global Inheritance will provide the Energy FACTory as a source of alternate energy. The Energy FACTory uses human powered bikes to generate power for charging cell phones, running laptops and PlayStations.

Global Inheritance’s Get TRASHed :: Recycling Store rewards Swerve Festival ticket holders that recycle empty bottles/cans collected onsite. Each day, individuals can use recycled products to purchase cool merchandise, including travel bags, screening passes, organic jeans, music, limited print skateboard decks, iPod speakers, DVDs + more.

In support of the TRASHed :: Recycling Store, Global Inheritance will also set up recycling/compost/trash art stations around the venues.

Surfrider Foundation

The Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s oceans, waves and beaches for all people, through conservation, activism, research and education.

Surfrider’s presence at Swerve Festival will provide attendees with an opportunity to become informed about how to take action to perpetuate environmental preservation.

SurfAid International

The mission of SurfAid International, a non-profit humanitarian aid organization, is to improve the health of people living in isolated regions connected to us through surfing. SurfAid’s participation at Swerve Festival will enable attendees to understand and learn more about their initiative.

LACBC – LA County Bike Coalition

LACBC also promotes community bike use awareness, and will be providing Swerve Festival with the bike valet for all those who need a place to park their bikes.
